Sleeve gastrectomy

Sleeve gastrectomy is the most commonly performed weight loss surgery

The procedure entails resection of the stomach over a calibration, guide, tube. Stomach volume is usually 100-140 ml

The expected weight loss is in the range of 60-70% of excess body weight by a year after surgery

The procedure is not appropriate for people with existing gastroesophageal reflux disease

Complications;

* Leak; it occurs in 1% and is usually managed non surgically. It occurs more in diabetics, smokers and people on immune therapy

* Gastroesophageal reflux disease; up to 25% and mostly is managed non surgically.

* Narrowing; up to 3% and mostly managed non surgically
